In collaboration with the UC San Diego PREPARE Institute, the SD CFAR is delighted to offer a new funding opportunity: Developmental grants with a focus on mpox in the context of HIV.
The Pandemic Response to Emerging Pathogens, Antimicrobial Resistance and Equity (PREPARE) Institute was established in 2021 in response to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and is rapidly becoming the San Diego regional leader in predicting and preventing new infectious diseases from reaching pandemic proportions.
Considering the worldwide increase in mpox cases, and the risks and possible consequences of co-infection in persons living with or at-risk for HIV, the PREPARE Institute is the perfect partner to advise us and offer guidance on this exciting new opportunity for early stage investigators.
Early stage investigators (pre-R01) with faculty appointments at an SD CFAR member institution are invited to apply.
Applications must address mpox in the context of HIV risk, prevention, transmission and treatment and must address at least one of the high-priority topics identified by the NIH Office of AIDS Research Priorities.
Please refer to the application procedures for Developmental grants. You may download application files from that webpage and complete them offline. Completed files must be submitted via InfoReady Review per instructions provided.
You will be asked (required) in InfoReady Review to recommend three reviewers with whom you have no conflicts of interest. Up to three additional, optional, reviewers may be added. If your preferred reviewers are unavailable, the Developmental Core will identify alternates. Applications will be shared with reviewers as soon as possible. Shortly after the October 7 due date, Developmental Core and SD CFAR leadership will evaluate the submissions and their reviews. Awards will be announced no later than the end October.
Up to two awards may be made at a maximum of $50,000 each in direct costs for one year. Eligible SDSU ASSET Fellows may request up to an additional $10,000. Awards will be managed via chart string for UC San Diego investigators and by subawards for investigators based at other SD CFAR institutions.
