The Clinical Investigation Core provides outreach and recruitment of participants for research that requires specimens from HIV-infected persons. We recruit clinical study participants from a variety of healthcare organizations and community settings.
The Clinical Investigation Core is closely affiliated with the UC San Diego AntiViral Research Center, which conducts a variety of HIV-related clinical trials. HIV-infected subjects who are already participating in AVRC clinical trials are often willing to participate in additional studies. These subjects are typically excellent candidates for studies because they are familiar with the research center, the informed consent process, the clinical trial process, and aspects of their HIV disease.
The AVRC also publishes a newsletter, which describes research opportunities to HIV healthcare providers and patients. Investigators who use other Core services may advertize their research studies in this newsletter, which has proven to be an effective recruiting tool. The newsletter is distributed to more than 1,000 individuals, and copies are sent in bulk to 340 community clinics that care for HIV-infected persons.
If you would like to be added to the newsletter mailing list, please contact the AVRC.
Pamphlets, referral cards, letters to healthcare providers, and newspaper advertisements are also available through the Clinical Investigation and Biostatistics Core for study recruitment.
