Recent advances in genome sequencing and high-throughput technology to analyze gene expression have placed biology at the forefront of modern science. The Genomics and Sequencing Core provides services, reagents and expertise to perform assays ranging from small-scale to large-scale analysis of gene expression and sequence data, microRNA detection, detection of SNPs and somatic mutations, TaqMan Low Density Arrays, and HIV and other viral quantitation. Projects related to HIV research are given additional assistance.

The Genomics and Sequencing Core is equipped with the following instruments:

  • Agilent Bioanalyzer 2100
  • NanoDrop ND-1000
  • NanoDrop ND-2000c
  • Qiagen QIAcube
  • Techne TC-4000 & multiple other Thermal Cyclers
  • Applied Biosystems 7500 and 7900HT Real-time PCR systems (with multiple block types)
  • 2 Bio-Rad (formerly QuantaLife) Digital PCR instruments
  • Ion Torrent Personal Genome Machine & Ion Server
  • Illumina MiSeq Desktop Sequencer

The Genomics and Sequencing Core is sponsored by the San Diego Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and the Veterans Medical Research Foundation (VMRF). For your microarray needs, please refer to the GeneChip Microarray Core or the Biomedical Genomics Microarray Laboratory. For a source of commercial biological reagents and supplies, please visit the UC San Diego Core Bio Services. The services offered by these cores coupled with our qPCR or ddPCR validation and bioinformatic expertise provide researchers with the ability to harness the capabilities of the very latest technologies in genomics research.

The Genomics and Sequencing Core aims to provide both the academic and industrial communities with the relevant genomics tools to take their research in new directions.
