UCSD CFAR International Core Travel Grants are designed to supplement travel expenses between UCSD (or a UCSD CFAR-affiliated institution) and resource-limited countries. These countries must consider HIV/AIDS research and treatment as priorities and must have an annual per capita gross domestic product of less than $5000 USD per year. Priority will be given to applicants who are traveling to collaborate on international pilot project grants or NIH grant proposals.
Note: International pilot project grant proposals are due on April 1 and October 1 of each year. NIH grant proposals related to HIV/AIDS are due each year on January 7, May 7, and September 7.
Award Limitations
Travel must be undertaken in support of the development or conduct of projects involving the UCSD Center for AIDS Research. Travel grants are limited to $3000 USD for travel to the United States and limited to $2000 USD for travel from the United States. Applicants are encouraged to identify other funds to cover lodging and living expenses during their trip. Only one award will be permitted per person per year.
Due Dates
Applications may be submitted at any time and will be informed within 45 days of receipt. Awards will be made based on merit and availability of funds. When funds have been spent for the year, applications will be considered for the following year. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply early in the calendar year.
Note: Applicants should apply at least four months and preferably longer before their planned arrival date. This time will permit successful applicants to request and receive visas and other travel documents, make travel and housing arrangements, and confirm plans with their CFAR collaborator.
Program Requirements
Within one month after returning to their home countries, award recipients will be required to write a report on their experience for the CFAR International Core Directors to review.
