Donations
The UC San Diego Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) is primarily funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). While the NIH and our members' other grants cover the bulk of our scientific activities, the Center still needs public support to pay for items not covered by Federal funding.
Fundraising for the Center for AIDS Research is managed by the UC San Diego AIDS Research Institute (ARI). This umbrella organization unites and supports the many HIV/AIDS-related clinical and research groups at UC San Diego. For example, in 2009, the ARI raised funds to purchase a much-needed $400,000 flow cytometer for the CFAR Flow Cytometry Core.
