Michelli Faria de Oliveira

Michelli Faria de Oliveira is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Translational Virology Core

Michelli-FariaMichelli Faria de Oliveira, PhD was born in the mountain region of the state of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. She studied Biological Sciences at State University of Rio de Janeiro and earned her masters degree in Parasitary Biology at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (FIOCRUZ/Rio de Janeiro). In 2012, she completed her PhD in Genetics at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro where she conducted a study in the area of HIV drug resistance. In March 2013, she joined Davey’s group where she is involved in studies for genetic characterization of HIV-1 in body compartments; specifically, she is studying associations between central nervous system HIV latent reservoirs and viral diversification and pathogenicity. In her free time, she always talks to her family and friends in Brazil and also has been exploring the United States’ beauty and hanging out with new friends in San Diego. She has been very happy living and working here.
