Applications for UC San Diego Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) Developmental grants are accepted twice each year and must be submitted online. The next due date is 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time on Thursday, June 1, 2017.
You may submit only one application per cycle. Research plans must not exceed four pages (references are not included in the page limit). If you are submitting a previously reviewed and revised application, please include a one-page summary of the changes made in addition to the four-page research plan.
Special note to applicants based at The Scripps Research Institute
Applicants who are faculty at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) must obtain pre-approval from their Department Chair for coverage of TSRI indirect costs. This must be done before applying and must be documented in the application.
Identification of a mentor
For junior investigators, we strongly encourage the identification of a mentor prior to submission of the proposal. The mentor will provide assistance with preparing the proposal, and if funded, with the conduct and publication of the study. For those who would like help with identifying a mentor, please contact one of the following:
- Developmental Core Director: Dr. Joshua Fierer
- CFAR Director: Dr. Douglas Richman
- One of the CFAR Core Directors, depending on the subject matter (please see CFAR Core Services)

Applications are accepted by 4:00 pm (Pacific Time) on June 1 and December 1. If either date falls on a weekend, applications will be due by 4 pm (Pacific Time) on the following Monday. The next application due date is Thursday, June 1, 2017.
